CAPPADOCIA SOLO TRIP FOR UNDER £500
Solo travelling on your birthday? Many are to reluctant to take a leap of faith on solo travelling, let alone this. The lack of attention? Loneliness? Where is the fun?
I felt like freedom was my ultimate birthday treat. Birthdays celebrations can bring around so much self imposed pressure, this time I wanted to indulge in all things Tanaka! Every step felt like a meaningful way to embrace newness in this chapter, from alone time reflecting, spoiling myself and planning for the year ahead.
Many encouraging moments happened throughout the rest of my journey: Once I mentioned that I'm here on a solo birthday trip, locals were quick to offer their well wishes, from free food & experiences to a surprise birthday cake from the team at
It’s okay to defy expectations ― especially those you set up for yourself and remember you would never cancel your birthday ideas! So quit waiting and relying on people to create beautiful memories.
Cappadocia provided the perfect opportunity to reflect on the past year, the beautiful sunrise with hot air balloons filled in the air. This place is just magical, below you'll find my recommendations to create your magic:
PLACES TO STAY:
Cappadocia is filled with loads of hotels with beautiful rooftops giving you a chance to see the balloons at sunrise.
I stayed at Divan Cave Hotel , they made my birthday stay so special and upgraded my room to deluxe suite. Do try to book in advance as hotel quickly sell out.
A 3night stay costs £259, this includes breakfast.
GETTING AROUND & KEY NOTES:
From London you'll stopover in Istanbul for a couple of hours, before getting to Nevsehir (closest) or Kayseri Airport. Airport transfers cost around £8-10 if booked in advance.
The town of Cappadocia is very small, you can walk from surrounding hotels to downtown. Divan hotel provided free shuttle service to surrounding areas.
£249 London - Neveshir with Turkish Airlines
With regards to money, I exchanged my GBP to EURO via NM MONEY. With the £ being low due to Brexit changes, they gave me the best rate £350 for 460euro. Once I got to Cappadocia, I exchanged 60EURO giving me 360TL. This was enough for food and souvneiers. The average meal will cost 25TL-90TL.
THINGS TO DO & FOOD :
Activities can be booked online. However to avoid disappoint especially during high seasons, I recommend you contacting your hotel to book activities. This will secure your option on sought after activities such as the Hot Air Balloon from £100.
I highly recommend the following tours, you'll get in-depth understanding of the history behind Cappadocia. It includes entrance fees , Professional English-speaking tour guide, Turkish Lunch and Transfers from / to any cave accommodation.
; Meskendir Valley, Rose Valley , Red Valley, Cavusin Valley, Underground City, Pigeon Valley, Uchisar Castle Panorama
; Uchisar Panarom, Goreme Open Air Museum, Cavusin Village Avanos, Pasabag Monks Valley,Urgup Fairy Chimney
- Strip completely naked > Face mask > Steam > Shower > Exfoliating scrub (the Turkish way!) > Body Massage > Swim > Apple tea
As for food you must try the delicious Testi Kebab, also known as pottery kebab. The dish is cooked with tomato, pepper, eggplant, potato and garlic, and then served over rice. This will go down well with the popular local wine.
SAZIYE Restaurant was by far my favourite, guests at Divan Hotel also get 10% off the bill and free transport.
Hope this post encourages you to visit Cappadocia for budget!
